Why is the UK death rate so high?

Much has been made recently by the dumbed down reporters and journalists about said topic. It feeds perfectly into their default tone of general fear-led, negative reporting. The doom merchants seem to hold all the jobs!

It would be a surprise if the UK wasn’t the top and common sense should tell them that because Covid spreads from human to human. The UK is a tiny landmass housing over 65 million people, so our population density is considerably higher than almost every other country in Europe so obviously so will be our death rate. It would be impossible for it to be any other way. If people understand the disease transmission method then it is totally logical that the more ‘packed-in’ we are then the virus thrives because it has bodies to transmit via. Simple, there is nothing that could have been done.

Looking at the UK there are only Belgium and Netherlands with a higher density of population than the UK in Europe BUT they only have populations of 11 and 17 million respectively. Therefore their numbers will obviously be lower because there aren’t 65 million humans for the virus to get to within their border.

Population density has rarely been addressed by anyone wanting to shout these headlines of sensational death rates and always trying to attribute failings within the NHS or government. This is nonsense.

Just to give you some idea in more detail to compare the UK.

Our landmass is calculated against our 66.5 million to give us a population density of 710 people per every square mile.

Germany’s figure is 603, Switzerland is 539, Italy is 518, Denmark is 350, France is 319, Spain is 241.

So even France with a similar population to us has twice as much space between everyone.

To give further examples on a more domestic scale; London has been much spoken of for its high death/infection rate. But it is a city of over 9 million with a score of 611 and compared that to Scotland which has 3.5 million living with a score of 174. Clearly Londoners will inevitably spread the virus quicker due to more people much closer together.

Incidentally to give a balanced view and provide additional insight outside European countries with good death rates. There are countries such as Australia and New Zealand where their governments and health care are praised highly for achieving far lower death rates….but their respective densities are only 9 and 48 with populations are only 25 and 5 million! I think Jacinda is great and NZ have done well with so few deaths but there are 13 fold less people living there which is a massive factor that should not be ignored plus the UK is the most visited destination for overseas visitors.

All these factors should be acknowledged and understood to make a fair assessment. Silly presenters and reporters trying to criticise is stupid on many fronts but it will continue regardless!
